Yoga – a word that means union – is an age-old holistic practise that enables us to advance the unity of the body, mind and soul based on the underlying principle that our wellness encompasses physical, mental, emotional and spiritual elements. While there are many different variations, many people have largely come to see yoga today as exercise and relaxation achieved through stretching and the striking and holding of different postures… but it is so much more.
Meditation also encompasses a variety of practises and goals, but is non-physical and generally employed to further enhance mental relaxation and concentration by turning our attention inward, calming the mind and focussing it on a singular thought or element.
The purpose of yoga and meditation combined is to bring together all aspects of the mind, body and spirit. To allow us the opportunity to observe, accept, understand, and train each element that comprises what we are, towards realizing optimum balance and uniting the individual consciousness with that which is universal.
